My hitting knowledge is very little and yet so vast. That may not make sense, but I am only as good as my hitter’s last at-bats, and that is always an up-and-down proposition. Along with figuring out what they need, a hitting coach must analyze the player’s current mental state, and we all know the difficulty that entails. Coaching hitting is a constant riddle to solve and there is often no easy solution. All of the above simply means one thing – being a hitting coach is fascinating, fun, and confounding – it’s like being a rocket scientist.
